Northeastern University, located in the
Fenway/Symphony area, is a private university offering a broad range
of undergraduate, graduate and doctorate programs. In 1909, Northeastern
introduced cooperative education into its educational system, making
work experience a mandatory part of the curriculum. While engaged
in the co-op program students alternate periods of education with
periods in the workplace. Co-op jobs are full-time, focused towards
students’ goals and interests, and usually paid. The success
of the co-op program has distinguished Northeastern University from
other institutions of higher education and is the university's signature
program.
It consists of 41 academic and administrative buildings, housing
six full-time undergraduate colleges, numerous graduate programs,
a School of Law and many continuing education courses. There are
approximately 25,000 students, 14,000 of which are participating
in the full-time undergraduate program. Students at Northeastern
have access to more than 140 clubs and organizations and an extensive
network of advisement and counseling services. Northeastern’s
athletic program competes in Division I and maintains varsity teams
in nine men's and 10 women's sports.
The Northeastern campus covers 67 acres in the center of one of
Boston’s most culturally diverse areas (see Fenway/Symphony
in neighborhood info). Most students choose to live in close proximity
to the school, making the Fenway/Symphony, Longwood, Mission Hill,
and South End neighborhoods most popular for off-campus housing.

New England Conservatory attracts musicians
of all ages from places around the world. NEC hosts a more than
qualified faculty who focus on bringing out individual talents in
their students, while maintaining the highest standards of performance,
teaching, and education. The Conservatory believes that music plays
an important role in public life and works to increase and protect
that role’s importance. In addition, they strive to gain recognition
for educational contributions to the musical society and the public.
NEC educates students in a variety of influences, including classical,
jazz and world music traditions. The renowned faculty trains students
to master their art in a supportive environment and stress excellence,
creativity and risk taking.

Since 1945, Berklee College of Music has
become the world's largest independent music college and the most
esteemed institution for the study of contemporary music. Students
are offered one of the most thorough and intense music educational
programs available. The faculty looks to prepare students for real-life
experiences, moving beyond theoretical discussion, to exhibit real-world
application. While utilizing Berklee's extensive facilities, students
develop musical expertise and learn to make the informed business
decisions necessary to succeed in today’s music industry.
Berklee College of Music is located on the border of the Fenway/Symphony
area and Boston’s Back Bay (see Fenway/Symphony
in neighborhood info). Of all U.S. colleges and universities, Berklee
educates the largest percentage of international undergraduate students
– 40% - representing more than 70 countries. Students can
complete courses of study toward a fully accredited four-year baccalaureate
degree or diploma. The school offers majors such as Performance,
Composition, Music Production and Engineering, Film Scoring, Music
Business/Management, Music Synthesis, and Music Education. A new
music therapy major was started in 1996.

The Boston Conservatory is a private
college offering undergraduate programs in music performance, education
and composition, dance and musical theater. Graduate and diploma
programs are offered in music performance, opera, musical theater,
and music education. Established in 1867, The Boston Conservatory
is one of the oldest degree-granting conservatories in the United
States. Public performances showcase the talent of faculty, students,

The Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health
Sciences was founded in 1823 and is the second oldest college of
pharmacy in the United States. The MCP faculty provide a cutting-edge
educational strategy resulting in creating a student body that is
well prepared for success in contemporary health practice As a result
of its long history and experience, MCP has developed a curriculum
that follows both traditional and non-traditional methods. As its
mission, MCP hopes to embody teaching excellence, active scholarly
research, professional service and strong community partnerships.
Professors make the students learning and development their number
one priority. In order to ensure a strong well-balanced education,
the curriculum integrates the study of the liberal arts and basic
sciences with core professional studies. Massachusetts College of
Pharmacy inspires its students to build a strong foundation of professionalism,
leadership and caring, and, upon graduation, to bring the standards
into the workplace.
MCP’s Boston campus is located in the Longwood Medical area

neighborhood info). Undergraduate degree programs offered at the
Boston campus include chemistry, dental hygiene, health psychology,
premedical studies, pharmaceutical sciences and radiologic sciences.
First professional degrees are offered in pharmacy and physician
assistant studies. Graduate programs are offered in chemistry, drug
discovery and development, drug regulatory affairs, pharmaceutics
and pharmacology.

Wentworth Institute of Technology was
founded in 1904, and stands today as an independent, co-educational,
nationally-ranked institution. Courses of study include bachelor's
degree programs in areas such as architecture, computer science,
design, engineering, engineering technology and management of technology.
Wentworth gives its students a hands-on approach by using a three-part
educational model: class work, laboratory/studio work, and cooperative
learning. This system gives students at WIT the experience they
need to succeed in their lives after college.
Wentworth Institute of Technology, located on the border of the

full-time) from 33 states and 71 countries. Nearly 20 percent of
new students transfer from other colleges and universities. Wentworth
is a member of the Colleges of the Fenway Consortium, one of Boston's
largest academic collaborations.

Massachusetts College of Art was formed along
with Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and the Museum
of Fine Arts in an effort to bring education of technology and the
fine arts into New England. Mass Art is a public, free-standing
college of art and design. The college’s baccalaureate and
masters programs offer students the necessary tools to promote creativity
in the world around them. Graduates pursue many careers, including
fine arts, designers, architects and art educators. The school fulfills
its goals to offer education to all people of Massachusetts through
its continuing education classes, exhibitions, and cultural programs.
The college hopes to be a leader in the art and design professions,
and to influence the direction of the arts through the accomplishments
of its graduates, faculty and staff.
Mass Art is located just west of the Museum of Fine Arts, on the
border of the Longwood Medical Area, Mission Hill and Fenway/Symphony

2,000 students, with 1,400 of those being enrolled in degree and
certificate programs. Degree programs are offered in nearly all
aspects of the visual art industry, preparing students for professional
careers in design, fine arts and performing arts. Graduate programs
are offered in design, film/video, 2D and 3D Fine Arts, Photography
and SIM.

The School of the Museum of Fine Arts aims to
develop and train students to become artists who will shape the
future in the fields of art and media. The School does not provide
a freshman foundation program, nor does it offer a permanent set
of majors, which is unique among art schools in North America. Without
these restrictions, students, guided by the advice of their advisors,
can choose a course of study that best fits their own personal needs
and interests. The Museum School’s educators focus on creative
investigation, risk-taking, and exploration, as they guide students
in their search for an individual vision. Areas of study include
object-making, performance, collaboration, electronic imaging, or
computer networking. In lieu of a grading system, the School offers
a review board of students and faculty at the end of each semester.
Each student is given a block of credits based on the review, and
a record of all written evaluations is offered to the student for
further review.
The School of the Museum of Fine Arts is located on the border of
the Longwood Medical Area, Mission Hill and Fenway/Symphony (see

in neighborhood info). This school offers pre-college, diploma,
fifth-year and post baccalaureate programs to undergraduate and
graduate degree programs in affiliation with Tufts University. The
SMFA’s diverse student population consists of 638 full-time
day students and 486 students participating in evening and weekend
programs. Nearly 50 states and more than 40 foreign countries are
represented in the student body. The student to faculty ration is
10:1, giving the students the close attention they need to develop
successfully.

Simmons College was founded in 1899 and stands
today as a nationally distinguished, small women’s university
in the Fenway/Symphony area (see Fenway/Symphony
in neighborhood info). Simmons education strategy offers liberal
arts studies integrated with career preparation. The college does
offer coed graduate programs offered in health studies, education,
communications management, social work, library and information
science, and liberal arts — plus has an MBA program designed
specifically for women. Simmons uses collaboration and close personal
attention to help its students attain personal and professional
growth.
Simmons College’s undergraduate program consists of 1,300
women students. The graduate program consists of 2,500 women and
men students. Students come from 40 states and 39 different countries.

Emmanuel is a Catholic, liberal arts and sciences
college located in the Fenway/Symphony area (see Fenway/Symphony
in neighborhood info). Each student, through a solid course of study
gains the skills needed to succeed in today’s marketplace,
as well as the social conscience needed to make a profound difference
in the world around them. The school was founded in 1919 by the
Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur. Since converting to a coeducational
program, Emmanuel has welcomed the largest incoming class in its
history in September of 2003. Emmanuel offers degree programs in
the liberal arts, as well an extensive variety of minor programs.
The college's 17-acre campus is located amongst the city's medical,
academic, scientific and cultural communities. Landmarks such as
the Museum of Fine Arts, Fenway Park, Symphony Hall and renowned
medical institutions are within walking distance, giving students
access to the ultimate extended classroom, including many opportunities
to become active members of the community and to participate in
internships with the city's most prestigious, cutting-edge employers.
Emmanuel is setting plans to form a partnership with Merck &
Co. Inc., which is building Merck Research Laboratories-Boston on
the Emmanuel campus. This partnership will provide great opportunities
for students and faculty in 2004 and beyond.
Undergraduate and graduate enrollment consists of 1,800 students
with 1,000 of these being full-time undergrads. Students come from
33 states and 32 countries. Emmanuel’s student athletes compete
on 8 different teams in NCAA sponsored games. There is an extensive

Boston University Medical School is located near
the Boston Medical Center in Roxbury, Massachusetts. BU Medical
offers studies in medicine, dental medicine, public health, and
an extensive list of graduate studies. The Symphony Properties neighborhoods
are popular among the BU Med students due to their close proximity
to the school (see South

Harvard Medical School is among the world’s
most prestigious medical schools. The school has over 9,000 faculty
members and 17 affiliated facilities. HMS places its goals in building
a community of the world’s best medical staff and researchers
who will lead the world to help alleviate human suffering caused
by disease. Each medical student comes in contact with patient cases
early in their studies through Harvard’s New Pathway curriculum.
The Medical School’s student body is composed of 650 men and
women in the MD program; 477 students in the PhD program; and 132
in the joint MD-PhD programs, part of which is sponsored in collaboration
with MIT. Popular neighborhoods for students to live include the

For almost a century, Forsyth Institute has attracted
both national and international students. The students are engaged
in a cross-disciplinary approach that encourages creativity and
collaboration. Forsyth students are known for their extensive research
and methodology, which helps shape the future of science. Using
the oral and craniofacial complex as the basis for observation,
students at Forsyth explore the intricate inner workings of the
human body, and use science to unlock the secrets to overall health

Emerson College is the only college in America
offering a complete concentration in communication and the arts
in a liberal arts context. It is located in downtown Boston, near
the Theatre District and in close proximity to major media outlets.
It also has facilities in Los Angeles and the Netherlands. The College
was founded in 1880. Since then, it has become a multi-faceted college
with international recognition. Its current fields of specialization
are communication, marketing, communication sciences and disorders,
journalism, the performing arts, the visual and media arts, and
writing literature and publishing. The closest Symphony Properties
neighborhoods are South End and Back Bay (see South

in neighborhood info). Due to the schools central location, public
transportation can be found from all areas, Fenway/Symphony being
especially popular.
The College enrolls some 2,700 full-time undergraduates and 650
full-time graduate students in its School of the Arts and School
of Communication. This diverse group of men and women come from
48 states and 36 countries. Several hundred more part-time and non-degree
students take courses in the Division of Continuing Education.

Suffolk University offers a wide range of undergraduate
and graduate degrees in over 70 areas of study. Suffolk University
consists of a School of Law, School of Management, College of Arts
and Sciences, and a School of Art & Design. Suffolk distinguishes
itself by utilizing the intellectual educational strategy of its
faculty to provide students with both a demanding schedule and a
supportive jumpstart into their fields of study.
Suffolk is located on Beacon Hill. The closest Symphony Properties
neighborhood is Back Bay (see Back
Bay in neighborhood info), but due to the schools central location,
public transportation can be found from all areas. The total number
of students enrolled is 7,450, with 3,824 being enrolled in undergraduate
programs. There are 787 students coming from 101 countries. Faculty
consists of 312 full-time professors and 480 adjunct professors.
